The text you correct
When you ask for a correction, Korr reads the selected text or the content of the active text field. The engines process it entirely on your device, in your browser or on your computer, then replace the original text with the result.
This processing is local and temporary. The text is not stored in any database or sent to any server: no correction server exists.
You can check it yourself: after the first load, cut your connection. The correction keeps working, because nothing ever needed to leave your device.
What is stored on your device
Korr remembers a few settings in the local storage of your browser or of the extension:
- website: the interface language and the text language;
- extension: the websites where you enabled the button, and the language and style you chose;
- your personal dictionary, that is, the words you asked Korr to leave alone;
- extension: a correction counter, used only to invite you, twice at most, to rate the extension.
These settings are strictly necessary for the service, are not used for tracking and are never transmitted. They disappear when you clear the site's data or uninstall the extension.
The website: hosting and audience measurement
The website is hosted by Vercel Inc. Like any host, Vercel receives the technical data of each connection (IP address, browser, requested page, date) to deliver the pages and protect the service, and keeps it for a limited period. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running and securing the site.
The website counts its visits with Vercel Web Analytics, which sets no cookie and writes nothing on your device. It records the page viewed, the referring site, the country, the device type, the browser and the operating system, with a request fingerprint that expires after 24 hours. We only see aggregated statistics, and your text is never part of them. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used. You can block this measurement with your browser's content blocker, with no effect on correction.
Vercel is an American company: transfers to the United States are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. The extension and the Windows app contain no audience measurement.
The website also counts some actions with PostHog, hosted in the European Union: page views, clicks to the Chrome Web Store and to the Windows downloads, corrections run on the website (never their text), and turning on advanced correction. Each event contains only its name, the page, the interface language, the language of the corrected text, where the clicked button sits and, for a download, the chosen file. No cookie, nothing is written on your device: the identifier sent is drawn at random on each page and never kept, so no visit can be linked to another. PostHog receives the IP address of the connection, without geolocation. Your text is never part of it: the script does not read the correction box.
The browser extension
The extension makes no request over the internet: no account, no tracker, no advertising identifier, no telemetry. Its use of information adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
To place its button in your text fields, the browser extension loads a script in the pages you visit, and Chrome announces this at install time as access to your websites. That script reads nothing and sends nothing until you ask for a correction. The keyboard shortcut uses activeTab, which grants access to the tab you are working in, only at the moment you ask for a correction.
The correction button is hidden by default. It appears only on the websites you enable yourself from the extension menu. Page content is never read unless you request a correction.
The Windows app
The app reads the selected text through the clipboard, then restores what you had left there. Its engine runs at http://127.0.0.1:8787, which is your own computer and not the internet. Starting with Windows is disabled by default.
It writes a diagnostic file, %LOCALAPPDATA%\Korr\korr-clipboard.log, which records durations, clipboard formats and errors. It never contains your text, stays on your computer, and you can delete it at any time.
The Android app
The Android app, distributed on Google Play, opens the korr.peekrapp.com website in Chrome, full screen. It contains no engine and no measurement, and asks for no permission: everything said above about the website applies to it, and the data kept on the device is Chrome's.
AI rewriting styles
The rewriting styles and translation use a language model that you install yourself on your computer, for example with Ollama, reached at http://127.0.0.1:8787. The text stays on your machine.
The extension does not request this access when installed: it asks when you pick such a style, and you can refuse. Rewritten text is produced by artificial intelligence: review it before using it.
Reporting an error
“Report an error” opens an email in your own mail app, addressed to support@peekrapp.com, with the passage and Korr's correction. Nothing is sent unless you click Send, and you can edit or delete that text first.
If you write to us, we receive your email address and your message, only to answer you and improve the checker. Legal basis: your request and our legitimate interest in answering it. These exchanges are kept for at most three years after the last contact, then deleted, and are never sold or shared.
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, object to, restrict and port the data concerning you. Write to support@peekrapp.com. Because the corrected text and local settings are never transmitted, we do not hold them.
If you believe your rights are not respected, you can lodge a complaint with the French authority, the CNIL (cnil.fr), or with the data protection authority of your country.
If you install Korr from the Chrome Web Store, Google Play or the Microsoft Store, these stores process your account, installation and review data under their own policies. We have no access to it.
