# Terms of use

_Last updated: 20 July 2026_

## 1. Purpose

These terms govern the use of **Korr**, a spelling and grammar checker for
French and English, in every form in which it is used: website, installable web
app, browser extension or Windows application.

The publisher is identified in the [legal notice](LEGAL.en.md).

## 2. Acceptance

Using Korr means accepting these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use
the service.

## 3. What the service does

Korr analyses text supplied by the user and offers a corrected version.

**Processing is entirely local.** Text is analysed in the browser or on the
user's computer. No text is sent to any server belonging to the publisher: none
exists.

The deep correction mode relies on a language model running locally, which the
user installs themselves. That mode is optional and equally free of any external
transmission.

## 4. Free of charge, and free software

Korr is **free of charge** and released under the GNU General Public License
version 3.0. That licence allows you to use, copy, study, modify and
redistribute the software, including commercially, provided derivative versions
keep the same licence and publish their source code.

The publisher does not guarantee that the service will continue to exist, nor
that any future feature will remain free of charge. The version released under
GPL 3.0 does, however, remain freely usable irrevocably.

## 5. No warranty

In accordance with sections 15 and 16 of the GPL 3.0, **the software is provided
"as is", without warranty of any kind**, express or implied, including without
limitation any warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

In particular, the publisher does not warrant that:

- the suggested corrections are accurate, complete or suitable for the context;
- the service will operate without interruption or error;
- the software is compatible with any given hardware or software environment.

## 6. User responsibility

**Korr is a writing aid, not a validation.** An automatic checker may miss a
mistake, introduce one, or unintentionally change a meaning.

Users remain **solely responsible** for the text they publish, send or sign. It
is up to them to review every correction before use, particularly for
contractual, medical, legal or administrative documents.

The publisher cannot be held liable for direct or indirect damage arising from
the use of, or inability to use, the service — including data loss, commercial
loss, or an error remaining in a corrected text.

## 7. User obligations

Users undertake not to:

- use Korr for unlawful purposes or to produce unlawful content;
- attempt to disrupt the operation or security of the service;
- present a modified version as being the official one.

## 8. Personal data

Korr collects, transmits and stores no personal data. The website uses neither
cookies nor analytics.

Only two display preferences (interface language, text language) are kept in
browser local storage, on the user's device, and are erased along with browsing
data.

Details are in the [privacy policy](PRIVACY.en.md).

## 9. Intellectual property

Korr's source code is released under GPL 3.0. Third-party components remain
subject to their own licences, listed in the [legal notice](LEGAL.en.md).

Text entered by the user belongs entirely to them. The publisher never accesses
it and acquires no rights over it.

## 10. Availability

The service is provided with no availability commitment. The publisher may
modify, suspend or discontinue it at any time, without notice.

Once installed, the Windows application and the browser extension keep working
offline, regardless of whether the website is available.

## 11. Changes to these terms

These terms may be amended at any time. The applicable version is the one
published on the website on the date of use. The last update date appears at the
top of this document.

## 12. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by **French law**.

In the event of a dispute, an amicable solution will be sought first. Any
complaint may be sent to contact@peekrapp.com.

As the service is provided free of charge, no contract of sale is concluded with
the user. Failing an amicable settlement, the French courts have jurisdiction;
consumers retain the right to bring proceedings before the courts of their place
of residence, in accordance with applicable law.

## 13. Right of withdrawal

The service is provided free of charge and involves no payment: no right of
withdrawal applies as things stand.

## 14. Severability

If any of these clauses is held void or unenforceable, the remaining clauses
keep full effect.

## 15. Contact

Any question or complaint regarding these terms:
**contact@peekrapp.com**
